08.19.2026 Make A Wish Foundation and CPYC

Every year Cottage Park Yacht Club of Winthrop holds a large fundraising event for Make A Wish Foundation Massachusetts and Rhode Island. This year the event was bigger than ever with a lot more people in attendance. Over the years CPYC has raised over a million dollars for this very worthwhile charity, granting 10 wishes alone last year. Club members such as myself volunteer service (I served and cleaned up!), race sailboats and enjoy silent auction items and live auction. There also was excellent food and music and an upscale phot machine that emails your picture to you to keep the celebrations electric! It was really a fun night. There is also a speech by a parent of a child who had a wish come true - always very emotional and makes us realize how lucky we all are.

I loved this poster. This little wanted to ride on a unicorn and this pony was beautifully transformed into a unicorn. Many wishes are simple joys. All wishes help the patient and family cope with the illness and it does bring hope into their lives.

This little girl wanted to visit Newport, Rhode Island.

An excerpt from the MAW website:

"Tens of thousands of volunteers, donors and supporters advance the Make-A-Wish® vision to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a critical illness. In the U.S. and its territories, a wish is granted every 33 minutes. A wish can be that spark that helps these children believe that anything is possible and gives them the strength to fight harder against their illnesses. This one belief guides us and inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve."  https://wish.org

Here a couple of lilies from my garden. Bucky Deerburgerdid not eat all of them!

A  very large pink rose of Sharon - from a neighboring garden. It is beautiful.

Hope yo all are doing well.

Until next time - more Alaska pictures to be posted!
