09.2015 Last of birding in PNG

My last full day in PNG included an afternoon of birding. The guide and driver took us out of town and we saw birds that typically enjoy open areas, such as kestrels, kites, coocooshrikes, a Kukuburra and kingfishers. It was a nice ending to a memorable trip.

Forest Kingfisher. One cool looking bird.

Nice pair of raja shell ducks.

OK, so they are not birds. These men were selling betelnut in an outdoor market.

The man said it was a baby kangaroo. My guide said it was a wallaby. Cute critter nonetheless.

09.2015 Rondon Ridge birding

Now this was a great birding area. In total we saw seven different types of bird of paradise in addition to approximately 50 new birds for me. I did expect more different birds, but this was still a great experience. Here are a few of my favorite bird shots - some are from far awy, others a little closer.

View of local house.

The Trans Nuigini Tours director's house. A magnificent house with spectacular views.

Cuckoo doves.

Robin.

Coocoodoce with a wing damaged by a kite (predator bird).

Walked through a typical village with local houses.

King of Saxony

Joseph Ano, an excellent birder, naturalist and grows orchids on the grounds.

09.2015 Karawari - more photos

Karawari is one of those places where I feel the need to roll up my sleeves and get to work. This is a lovely area in terms of natural beauty and the people were nice to us. Here are a few more pictures of the local scenery.

Clinic - no doctor or nurse currently serves here. Inside as seen through window looks reasonably nice.
