03.25.2020 Intense times and a tribute to our friend Lucky

This is an intense time for all of us. With the coronavirus affecting the global community, we are aware of our own fragile community. This is also a time to think of each other and be helpful by following the guidelines for us in terms of social distancing. I am most amazed at the empty shelves in our grocery stores and pharmacies for items such as toilet paper, paper towels, flour and sugar and pasta! Prepare for essential items but do not hoard. Remember those that may not be able to get supplies and leave a box or two of groceries at their doorstep.

We are doing a lot of telemedicine at work, but one cannot do a physical examination over the phone!

At my house, we are all well. The boys are as active as ever and have a bit of Spring fever, even though it snowed the day before yesterday! Yes, a bit more snow in Spring. Doesn't matter as it melts very quickly.

To help lift your spirits, I will help by adding a few pictures of my boys. They are always a delight and cheery.

Shorty too has a matching sweater!

Here is a wild turkey displaying his feathers. Mating season!

And here is the rest of his flock.

Lilies in snow. Daffodils in snow. They should recover from the cold and bloom later in the Spring and Summer.

This is our little friend Lucky. Lucky is the reason why we have Fionnegan and Gunnarr. I would dog sit him sometimes and bring him to my house. We would run and play in the woods and on trails and go for very long walks. He was a sweet and beautiful dog. Lucky died this month at the age of 13 1/2 years old. A good boy and a friend of Fionn and Gunnarr and Shorty. He knew that when his sweater was put on him that he was coming to visit. He spent Sunday afternoons with us the last couple of months so he could have some companionship and play with the dogs. He also got a bath in the kitchen sink here. While Fionn and Gunnarr slept under the kitchen table, Shorty sat up and kept a close eye on the situation. He had never seen a dog get a bath in the sink. And I suspect he was going to make certain HE did not have to take a bath in the sink.

Yes, after lunch we played outside for a while. Then I let them all take a nap on my bed. They look so cute together. And, yes, there was no room for me, so I worked at my desk nearby.

Lucky sleeping on my pillow. He really liked to do that, even when he was visiting as a younger pup.

Gunnarr and Lucky.

Shorty in particular loved Lucky. He always kept an eye out for him and was very gentle with him. He must have sensed that Lucky was older and not well.

Let us inside! Please!

Typical Bichon frise moves!

Treat time.

We all miss you Lucky. Sunday afternoons are just not the same without you. RIP.

So if not anything else, perhaps some can catch up on nap time! Or just keep quiet while Momma works!

We all hope you stay well. Our very best wishes for your good health during these very trying times.

May the road always lead you to where you need to go. Until next time.........

02/09/2020 February

As I was outside yesterday with the boys I couldn't help but notice how nice it was. Yes, it was cold and windy. Really cold. But the sun was reflecting on the snow and the sky was clear and blue and you can just feel Spring in the air. I really like February. I was thinking it may not be my favorite month, as I like flowers in the gardens in the Spring, but it is a month I really enjoy.

In February you can feel the days are getting longer. When I was a surgical resident I learned how to cross country ski in February and that is when I first appreciate the true beauty of the month.  I remember the fields were open and snow covered and the sky was huge, clear and blue. Cold yes, but if you bundle up enough, it doesn't matter. It was simply beautiful.

So this morning we again spent some time outside in the sunshine, even though it is below freezing. I like watching the boys run and play in the snow, the squirrels are getting frisky and we have many, many birds at the feeders. My pair of bluebirds are still here feeding at the suet feeders. Shorty never ceases to amaze - my Yapese dog loves the cold weather. He likes to keep and eye on all activity outdoors. But he missed the deer crossing at the fence the other night. Saw my friend Bucky Deerburgher crossing into my yard, so I stopped the car to let him cross the road and just watch him run through the woods. So graceful, so beauty, so much a rodent with antlers. Hope he doesn't eat too many of my plants and shrubs.

Yes, I heard the news this morning. Three winter storms coming up this week alone. You say - let's hear what you have to say about February at the end of the week. But when it snows in February I shovel only the width of pathways and driveway as necessary. After all, March is coming soon and the snow will melt! No need to over shovel!

Blue skies and sunshine and a little snow in the backyard woods.

Shorty. Found him a tribal sweater, thought it worked for a dog from village in Yap!

Happiness is a journey. May you all find happiness in your lives in all that you do.

Until next time................

02.02.2020 Super Bowl Sunday

Who will win Super Bowl LIV?
 Does New England really care?
So jaded you say!
Our team is not in the Super Bowl and most of us have a little but not a tremendous amount of interest!

I can understand the national sentiment that it is good to have another team playing, but we all love Tom Brady and will root for the Patriots to win another Super Bowl. Maybe next year!

Let's hope this one is not a sleeper. Now it is time to watch the game. Wake up boys! It is game time!

Fionnegan was my assistant photographer. While everyone else was sleeping, he was watching the images through the view finder. He was perched above my shoulder on a big pillow. My boy!

They'll wake up once there is a commercial with a dog! They are all pretty tired. We had a visit from another bichon, Lucky! Lots of activity with four dogs!

Will have to remember this hiding spot next time I am looking for Shorty. He is very quiet under this shrub.

Did you see the Hulu commercial of Tom Brady? He said he'll be back! The boys are excited now.

01.26.2020 Where has the month gone?

It seems as if it was just Christmas and the New Year holidays.  Now we are at the end of January!  My boys and I have been busy and enjoying the new year. They love the snow and are great companions when I am outside shoveling.

While editing some video I took of them playing after the last snow storm, Fionnegan took a look at the computer screen. Now he frequently sits on the table near me, he has never had an interest in watching the computer screen. Until when there was a movie of him and Gunnarr and Shorty!

He started barking with excitement. Lots of excitement. That signaled both Gunnarr and Shorty to look and everyone was barking!  This is the first time they have seen themselves in action!

Fionnegan' s first glimpse at the video while Gunnarr is watching for a dog on the television.

Fionnegan is intensely watching Shorty.

Gunnarr is watching from the floor. It is hard to pick him up and take pictures at the same time!

He is a view of Fionn and Gunnarr watching the video. Could not lean back far enough to get Shorty in the picture but he was at my side watching too.

He is watching himself and Gunnarr.

Shorty is trying to see form the floor. Now he is too big to lift up on my lap! He watched and was very excited to see his bright green coat.

Perhaps I am one of few people who had hoped it snowed last  night instead of rain. The dogs love the snow and run and play in it for as long as it takes me to shovel.

Here are a couple of videos of them playing. Both Fionn and Gunnarr slipped out of their four legged sweaters and Fionn was on his second change of clothes. Shorty loves the snow and the cold and wants to stay outside for as long as he can. He is the first one out and the last one back inside.

These pajamas do not stay on long with all of the running and playing!

Time to go inside and warm up! Hot chocolate for me, warm water and a treat for them.

Until next time, may you find happiness in all you do.
