Another great day in the OR. A new intern joined us and we are gathering momentum. We double teamed on one operation and Dr. Roberto scrubbed with us.
After we finished we attended a conference at the Restaurant Winociendo Real (hard to read Andrea's handwriting!) The conference was on the topic of hepatocellular carcinoma and we had a very nice lunch.
A few notable pictures from today:
Dr. Roberto and Fernando.
Love the flower on the scrub hat. Doctora Andrea. She is getting married next month.
Alya the photographer.
Doctora Sarah, an intern.
The hotel added colored lights to the Christmas tree.
Orchids in the lobby. They are real.
Decorations from the restaurant:
Really like the bull and horses.
Another surgical oncology resident Doctora Verna. She is the first resident I met and a really nice person.
Intern Doctora Lizbeth. We were driving to a restaurant one night and she got lost. She thought she was following Dr. Roberto but he had turned before she realized it. Really nice person.
Dr. Roberto purchased a linear accelerator on eBay. He takes care of the routine maintenance himself. This is the inside of the accelerator. Pretty cool!
Here is Dr. Roberto putting the cap back in place.
All done!
And this is what you do when you have a technical question, you call the service center, take a picture of your screen and text them, and they help you solve the problem. He provides free radiation treatments to the children from poor families. There was a little boy crying because he was afraid and they asked him what he wanted. It was a dinosaur he wanted, so the staff went and bought him one to hold onto during the treatments. Nice people.
