01.08.15 Leaving for the Outer Islands

It seems like all of a sudden there is a lot to do. Tomorrow a group from PH (Immunization Team) and me will leave for Fais and Ulithi. We will be gone one week or so, vaccinating kids and adults, be teaching and doing school exams. It should be a nice visit. There is a very big celebration that we will be missing tomorrow. The Department of Health Services, which includes the hospital and community health centers, is having a big holiday party combined with a farewell to the current director James Gilmar. With a new governor comes a new administration as the hospital director is a member of the State Cabinet.

I also  will be teaching a course for two months when I get back. It is on the essentials of epidemiology - how to write a survey, enter the data into a database, and perform basic statistics. I will be busy.

We had a beautiful sunrise this motning. There was no wind and the water was smooth as glass.

There will be no blogging while I am off island as Fais has no  power and Ulithi has no internet. But once in October, I did hop a ride on the plane for a day trip to visit both islands.

This is the PMA airplane that flies to  the neighboring islands.

In case of fire, there is a fire extinguisher. On a trolley. If that makes one feel better.

Amos the pilot. I was the co-pilot.

On this trip, Ivan and Angie went too..

Runway at Ulithi. Much bigger than Fais.

Now you have an idea of where I will be. Will be back posting on 01.18.15. Have a very good week.
