04.02.15 All's well

Typhoon Maysak turned into a super typhoon but the center of the hurricane was north of Yap. We did well but haad tropical storm conditions with winds in excess of 85 mph. Trees down, some roofs lifted, but no loss of life and no major injuries. Power goes out, of course, but they were really efficient in getting it back. One section of the island at a time, but they worked hard and most of the people, if not all, have power restored. I was the acting Chief of PH, so I organized the teams and we had our debriefing meeting this morning. So much to learn. I now will write my report and hope that it makes a difference in the future. This is my second typhoon here, so I am getting a lot of disaster experience.

It did hit Ulithi and Fais directly and there is reported to be a lot of damage but no loss of life. Communication is rather limited, so will wait for final word on problems.

Here are some satellite pictures until power and the internet went down. Now the Super Typhoon Maysak is heading for the Philippines and is said to be gathering ferocity.
