Ulithi is an atoll made of many small islands. It is generally very hot even in the best of shade. Soil is very thin and the root system of trees is shallow. Coral is everywhere, and can lead to nasty wounds. Father Kelly can attest to that as he is recovering from a very nasty cut on his foot.
Here are pictures from the other populated areas that we visited in Ulithi:
Sandbar between Falalop and Asor. This is a short 20 minute or so boat ride.
Ivan, Red Cross and Public Health
The captain and crew ate fresh fish. They did share rice with me with fish and spam. In general, on the boat we had ramen (a staple of life here) and tins of meat and fish.
He must be the only little boy with a life jacket. I give his Dad a lot of credit for considering the risk in the motor boat.
One of the rare standing structures.
