09.13.14 The walk from Colonia to North Fanif. Beautiful scenery

The road follows the shore for a long stretch then turns inland. I determined where I was for the run around based upon a sign on a community bulletin board, my tourist map. and satellite imagery.

There are  no road signs indicating the name of a village when you enter - most likely because everyone else knows where they are.

Here are a few pictures of the shoreline north of Colonia.

This is Tarang, now named O'Keefe Island after the Irish American merchant who brought shiploads of stone money to Yap, thereby devaluing the currency. Stone money is not made in Yap.

The sign is telling people to keep Yap clean and there is a fine if you litter.

The ferry that takes passengers to the outer islands. It used to have a monthly travel schedule, but supposedly due to lack of funds for fuel,, only goes when someone will buy fuel, like groups who may be working on projects on the outer islands. There is even more limited flights to some islands. This is really a very isolated part of the world. Once you are on an outer island, you may be there for a very long time.

View from the inlet to the sea. The coral reef is just in front of the horizon, where the waves break.

All land is privately owned, including the coast. This is a private fishing area.

Local rest area. Stopped for a visit and a drink of water. Also good to get out of the sun. But notice the clouds are increasing and soon it will rain.

In case of an emergency, someone left some supplies!

Men's lodge house and a newer house in progress.
