06/12/15 Posting of OI trip to Ulithi Atoll - Falalop

Ulithi - Falalop and Fedrai were our last stops for working. Both had been hit by the typhoon, and multiple pictures were posted in the past. Fedrai is doing better, Falalop still almost flattened. Let's hope that construction supplies arrive soon so they may have shelter and get life back to normal. Everyone thought Thomas was going to retire - he's not - but we got to celebratehis career anyway. On Falalaop we had a scrumptious lunch - turtle and turtle eggs (they are legal this time of year) and a lot of local foods.
At the dispensary, they have a large tent which provides good protection from the sun. It has been hot, here, very hot.

Here are a few pictures from Falalop.

Sunset as we left Fais, heading for Falalop, Ulithi.

Sunrise over Falalaop. It was a smooth sail by all accounts.

The tent is used instead of the porch for patients and shade from the hot sun.

Power is restored!

Hiptus, a health assistant, is helping make radio contact with Yap.

Gracia (I call her Gracie) a health assistant helping make radio contact with Yap. Not easy. Note her dog under the desk.

Any shade is welcome.

Making local baskets. These are used to hold food, banana leaves serve as a plate. Still need napkins!

Making a nu-nu.

Elaborate set up for our lunch.

Presenting Thomas with the nu-nus. They all appreciate all of the years he has worked for Public Health and the immunization program. It was touching to watch.

Thomas saying a few words.

Loved the colors in this lavalava. Very special.

Gracia.

Brown booby fishing by our launch.

There he is overhead of us.

Their new red truck.

It is really hot and humid. Mark, the health manager, cools off. He was a good sport knowing the camera was in action!

Last working stop in Fedrai. Pictures next.
