Going to Fedrai is always very special. It is a small island with a small population, but the people are very kind and welcoming. They, too, are recovering from the tphoon, and the health assistant is mourning the loss of her husband.
We did have a meeting with the women. Most were busy with the recent catch of fish, but those available came to the talk on self breast examination. One woman says she will hold her own monthly clinic and make sure everyone does one! She wasw a good sport. The rest of the team finished the immunizations and then we were back to the ship and set sail for home. The trip back has been pleasant, with calm nad gentle seas. However, I am glad I am not sailing as this seems to be too calm to sail.
Here are a few pictures from Fedrai.
Kids sleeping in the corridor of the ship. If you don't have a cabin you sleep on the deck or the corridors.
Hiptus and Ali in the launch.
The dispensary survived the typhoon.
The house right next to the dispensary did not.
Bullet was sleeping at the dispensary under the bed. We woke him from his afternoon nap.
She helped the immunization team prepare for the kids.
Women'shouse. This is where we met for the breast health awareness lecture.
Rock a bye baby. They all swing the baby rather hard.
The men catch the fish, the women prepare them.
She is a delight, the teacher.
Storytime 21st century style. Using an iPad, there is a video teaching kids how to behave.
Preapring the smoke house and fish.
Two women put the lid on the smoke house for the fish.
Adding the fuel.
Charles from Environmental Health and Hiptus.
This is how you get a baby up on board the ship!
