This was a remarkable evening. Homecoming - which has nothing to do with high school or football - is this week. We are celebrating 30 years of diving in Yap. Four inductees of the International SCUBA Diving Hall of Fame were here. What a very special event to learn of their accomplishments in diving. They are educators and conservationists and historians it was an honor to meet them. More activities tonight as they show a movie on the history of diving and have dances on Saturday.
From the left Ed Brooks, who is 80 years young and a professional underwater photographer and pioneer in this field; Leslie from the UK, a historian among other diving accomplishments, Don Evans (organized the event and is a resident of Yap since 1973), Bill Akers who owns Manta Ray, Mnuw and Yap Divers and found the diving sites around Yap, and Geri Murphy, the first woman in many fields of diving and diving photography. She is delightful and I look forward to talking with her again. We were at a reception on the Mnuw.
Next year homecoming - Peace Corps 50 years in Yap. I MUST be back here for that celebration.
