From my log:
Arrived in Eauripik for the second time. Smooth sailing
overnight. This is a brief stop for me to check on one patient and for them to
discharge materials – one huge piece of lumber. Saw the woman and she is being
transferred to Yap. After this, we sailed on towards Fais. So I am taking the
time to catch up on my trip report and the information for the blog. It will
take about 20 – 24 hours to get there depending on the weather. The captain
said no storms are in the forecast, so this should be easier than when we left
Fais.
We start each morning early and are in the launch before 7. Sunrose and the early morning hours on the sea.
Loading the launch.
Our ship.
Fishermaen.
Pulling a mahogany log. The men in the boat kept yeliing "don't lose the rose!"
Dogs on the reef.
We walked along the reef to get to the shore.
We walked over coral like this.
Stretcher for the patient.
A good morning catch. And they were tasty, too. Wehad them for breakfast.
Carlos. This island is his home.
Kids.
This was one aggressive chicken.
Traditional houses.
Carrying the stretcher and patient across the reef to the launch.
A lot of hands make light work. Or a bumpy ride!
The coral reef.
The patient and stretcher and the patient in the launch.
Easy does it. Moving the stretcher up the narrow stairwell to the second floor. They did it very well.
