12.11.14 Thursday

Work and everything are going well. Am packing to leave tomorrow for the outer islands of Fais and Ulithi. Will be gone for one week - so do not worry when there are no new posts.

Almost adopted a puppy. But................ the people who own the apartment said no. That is OK, Shorty and I have become friends. Shorty is about 8 months old - still cutting teeth and tried that on my rings. He is cute and lives near the hospital, while he is not my dear Chocolate, he is palyful and friendly and wags his tail as soon as he sees me. He has a burn on his side, probably from someone wanting him to get away. They throw scalding water on dogs, apparently even puppies.

We are in the midst of another tropical storm, but are hopeful it will clear for tomorrow as we fly on PMA for Fais, a very small coral island. I have been to both once last month on an undocumented trip. We plan to be on Fais until Monday morning, then to Ulithi, which has four dispensaries. I will be training staff, doing the school children examinations, and helping with the immunizations. A total of seven of us will be traveling.

The fragrance is the plumeria filled the air at the airport.

Amos, the PMA pilot, checking all equipment and flight panel.

Fais. Just a little island with a few hundred people, no electicity. See the runway in the center of the island. The northern part has high cliffs, the people live in the southern part of the island.

View of the approach to the runway from the co-pilot's seat. Not exactly Logan, but it works.

Ulithi is an atoll made of several islands. Here they are from the  air.
